How We Make an Impact

We believe that knowledge is most powerful when applied. Our goal is to enable our members to understand data analytics but also know how to use the learned skills in real-world scenarios. That’s why we host events that both strengthen our theoretical foundation and provide hands-on opportunities to apply this knowledge.

Theory

Learning Data Science begins with a solid theoretical foundation. Through workshops with our partners, lectures from professors in Data Science, and our Monday News Nights, STADS equips its members with essential concepts in machine learning, statistics, and business intelligence.

Practice

Mastering Data Science takes experience. That’s why STADS emphasizes hands-on learning through the STADS Datathon in collaboration with corporate partners, real-world case studies and the STADS Data Bootcamp. These opportunities enable members to apply their theoretical knowledge, cooperate with companies, and refine their skills while gaining valuable industry experience.

Who can join STADS?

Membership is open to all University of Mannheim students interested in data analytics, regardless of experience level. We welcome beginners and advanced practitioners alike.

Is there a selection process or interviews?

Unfortunately, due to high application rates, we are unable to offer an active membership to every applicant. Therefore we will have interviews with those interested to get to know each one better. For more information check the application page.

What types of events does STADS offer?

We host workshops, guest lectures, networking sessions, and collaborative projects focused on data analytics, business intelligence, and AI. Events are designed for a range of skill levels.

How do I participate in STADS events?

Check our website or social media for event announcements. Most events are free for members, and registration details are provided for each session.

How much time is considered necessary for actively participating in STADS?

Active participation in STADS doesn’t require a major time commitment. In practice, most students invest around 2–4 hours per week, and during the exam period there are usually no tasks at all.
